Star Wars-The Phantom Menace in 3D

February 10th, 2012 is listed as the release date for the next “remake” in the Star Wars Film series. Episode I the Phantom Menace will be released in 3D. I recall reading about this several years ago and I wondered why George Lucas would make the films into 3D. But with new technologies being released for home use there is 3D television and soon everyone will want to buy the New and Improved Blue Ray 3D version of the set. The 1st trilogy will be released and then the 2nd and George will make more than he could imagine!
I don’t plan on purchasing the 3D version on DVD or Blue Ray, but I am looking forward to seeing the films again in the theater. I loved watching them all when they were first released and the chance to see them all over again makes me feel alive and young again rather like I was when they were first released.
I can recall watching the pod racing scenes in the 1st episode and they were not my favorite, but well worth sitting through to see the incredible light saber duels between Darth Maul, Qi-Gon Jin and Obi-Wan Kenobi.
It’s just over one month until the release of episode 1 and I’m looking forward to it. I’m looking forward to it in a way I’ve not felt for a very long time! Thankfully I don’t feel like saying, “I have a bad feeling about this.”

The Best Star Wars Film..??

Which is the Best Star Wars Film?

Is it fair to even ask such a question? After all they were created and filmed over the course of 27 years. Film technology changed dramatically over that time. Each film had a different director and Lucas was undoubtedly a different person when he wrote Sith than he was when he wrote Star Wars. Is it fair to compare and critique Sith with the original Star Wars [A New Hope] and any of the films in between?

But while it may seem unfair to compare the films themselves the story lines, ideas and characters can certainly be compared. We’ve all probably watched all the movies in one marathon night-on more than one occasion! And seen the progression of Luke’s farm boy style and naiveté in A New Hope change and mature over the course of the next two films. After all some six years passes from the start to the finish of the first original three movies. Han Solo’s character as well is a good example-he goes from a greedy, self-serving, narcissistic smuggler to a more open and selfless person at the end of Jedi. We can’t call him General Solo without his future love-Princess Leia-helping him out. We see an over confident, loud mouthed, scared little girl in the opening scenes and by the end we witness the transformation to someone who will risk her life not only for the rebel cause but for the man she loves!

Certainly I could continue to wax philosophical about all the differences in the characters as well as how they’re related to the last three movies, the prequels, but in the end the question still remains-which Star Wars Film is the Best?

I think the answer that anyone gives must have an explanation to it, and any explanation we give will always have a footnote added to it. Whether that footnote is that it was Lucas’ first Star Wars film and that it did not have much backing from the studio, or if it was because it was directed by someone who never watched sci-fi in their life. Whatever the footnote is we all have our fave film.

Which one is yours?
And why?

Star Wars-The Clone Wars

This isn’t your Uncle Owen’s Clone Wars Story!
I’d heard the reviews from the critics, and read about the movie on the website. I know there’s a cartoon that will start next month that this movie sets up. I realize the movie introduces us to a new character-Ahsoka, Anakin’s new padawaan. I know it’s a Star Wars film that Lucas produced, but I can’t help but feel disappointed in some way-not like Obi-Wan when he saw the video records of Anakin slaughtering younglings-but more like when Yoda thought Luke was going to lift the fighter out of the bog, and then it sank back down.

This movie has several flaws-not the least and most obvious seems to be that the animation is not believable. Lucas could have done so much better with the animation. It’s not just a movie to introduce us to the cartoon TV series that will soon start. It’s a movie in the Star Wars genre and needs to be produced as such. I hope that the next animated film that Lucas produces will have a better script, better animation, and no holes in the story line please!

When did Anakin get promoted to master?

When does Yoda nearly force a padawaan on to a master to train?

All these question and more-are not answered in the movie!

Eat Like A Jedi…and grow like one too!

For all of you who desire to be 3 feet tall just like your favorite jedi master now you too can eat the breakfast, lunch or dinner of champions-900 year old champions too!

The recipe for the widely seen, but little known Yoda stew has been published on starwars.com and can be republished with starwars.com’s authorization. While it’s not a vegan or vegie stew I’m sure that tofu and other vegies could be substituted for the lamb that the recipe calls for. However you prepare your yado Stew-Bon Appetite!

As the colder months approach now is the perfect time to whip up something yummy befitting of a Jedi Master. Here's a tasty interpretation of "Yoda's Incredible Herb Stew" -- originally prepared exclusively for National Public Radio by noted gourmet chef and author, Craig Claiborne.

This recipe goes waaay back to 1983, when NPR debuted a new 10-part radio drama based on The Empire Strikes Back. Craig Claiborne was invited to create his own tasty version of "rootleaf," a succulent dish featured in both the film and radio versions. If you remember, "rootleaf" was prepared for Luke Skywalker by Yoda, the ancient Jedi Master.

We believe you'll find the following recipe a perfect food idea for eight hungry young Jedi. Kids should have adult supervision and assistance when making this meal.

3 pounds lean lamb or other meat
Salt to taste, if desired
Freshly ground pepper to taste
6 tablespoons light vegetable or other oil
6 cups finely chopped parsley
3 cups thinly sliced onions
1 tablespoon finely chopped garlic
2 teaspoons ground coriander
2 teaspoons ground cumin
1 teaspoon ground turmeric
2 tablespoons finely minced ginger root
1 teaspoon finely chopped seeded hot green or red chilies
1/4 teaspoon ground cardamon
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
1 bay leaf
3 pounds fresh spinach, well rinsed and tough stems removed.

INSTRUCTIONS:

1. Cut the meat into one inch cubes, and add salt and pepper to taste.
2. Heat half the oil in a heavy skillet and add the meat, turning to brown the pieces on all sides.
3. Heat the remaining oil in a Dutch oven or heavy casserole and add parsley, onions and garlic. Cook, stirring often until the onions are wilted. Add the meat, coriander, cumin, turmeric, ginger root, chilies, cardamon, cinnamon, cloves, bay leaf, and salt and pepper to taste. Stir.
4. Add water to cover, bring to boil and cover tightly. Let simmer about 2 to 2 1/2 hours until the meat is quite tender.
5. Meanwhile, drop the spinach into a kettle of boiling water with salt to taste and let simmer about five minutes. Drain well and run under cold water. Drain thoroughly.
6. Squeeze the spinach to remove all excess liquid. Place the spinach on a chopping block and chop coarsely.
7. Add the spinach to the stew and stir. Let simmer together about five minutes.

Yield: Eight servings.

Clone Wars on Cartoon Network and StarWars.com!

Well for all of you who haven’t already read about and watched the new Clone Wars Cartoon on Cartoon Network on Friday nights at 9pm [and no I am not getting a fee for advertising this!] for those of you who do not have cable-and there are some of us who don’t- as well as for those of you who may have missed some of the episodes, it’s now available to view online at starwars.com!

Not having cable made me give up ever watching it, but now that they’re going to be put online so we can watch the older episodes makes me think it may be worth downloading or streaming the video to my computer.

Hope this doesn’t make me too much of a geek!
