I’ve seen the latest version of Batman-the Dark Knight six times now and each time keeps getting better and more enjoyable for me. From the beginning where this film picks up virtually where the last left us-through an obvious explanation of how DA Harvey Dent becomes Two-Face as well as the explanation of the title itself-the Dark Knight this movie leaves wanting more despite that it gives us so much in the two plus hours that it runs!
Aaron Eckhart plays a convincing role as the DA who wants to put away Gotham’s bad guys and later as the physically and more so emotionally scarred man who has lost what was most important to him-his beloved Rachel Dawes. Batman-Christian Bale-returns as the ever stoic and technically savvy crime-fighter. He manages to find and put away the “Scarecrow” who was the main scourge in the last movie. He also is literally hours away from putting the mob out of business when a stealthy accountant is able to transfer the money out of town and get away himself to a secure and posh hide-a-way in Hong Kong! But in a scenario that presents quite a bit of problems from a physics stand point, at least in my opinion-from shooting C4 across from one high-rise to another at what must be 1500+ feet in high winds from ¼ mile or more away and hitting a target less than 10 square feet in diameter let alone sky diving into the correct floor of the building! But putting those questions aside and viewing the film as a fast paced action film makes it much more enjoyable!
Bruce Wayne appears to be nearly out of a job when high energy DA Harvey Dent is able to arrest a majority of the city’s mob criminals and put them behind bars! But just as it appears we might see some benefit to Batman’s work with the police in steps the Joker and everything goes haywire! “Introduce a little Anarchy!” says the Joker-played by Heath Ledger-and everything goes Ka-Blooey! I wasn’t fond of Ledger’s portrayal of the Joker the first time I say the movie, but his interpretation of the character has grown on me and I find that he had a great deal of insight in to a crazed mind who wants to harm everyone and anyone and plays by no rules what-so-ever. His vocal techniques remind me of when I was in undergrad school studying music. The hard pronunciations and annunciation of the consonants make Ledger sound so much more interesting and scary simultaneously. This movie is worth seeing multiply times if simply for Ledger’s performance and I would not be surprised if he wins an Oscar for his work.
Michael Caine and Gary Oldman also play very good supporting roles as Alfred and the soon to be Commissioner Gordon. But do not be surprised that Eckhart, Bale and Ledger are the main stars of this film. They carry each scene they are in and when they’re in a scene together it’s like a shouting match between them to see whose force of will is stronger and who will come out on top.
This is a film to see over and over, and with its recent release to DVD you can enjoy it multiple times this holiday season.

Seinfeld-When is a Pizza a Pizza?
When is a Pizza a Pizza?
I saw a rerun of Seinfeld last night and while I’ve seen nearly all of them while they’ve been in reruns I don’t believe I’ve seen this one episode from beginning to end before.
Jerry is getting a new couch and while the movers are there Elaine flirts with one of them, and doesn’t care that he’s a mover because he’s gorgeous! Additionally, Kramer reintroduces his onetime business idea of allowing customers come in and create their own pizza pie!
These two ideas don’t seem like they could possibly meet, but they do a nice job of finding a tangent from one to the other and then back again. Kramer is going to go into business with Poppy-the famed uncle of a previous girlfriend whose restaurant had problems because Poppy got sloppy after not washing his hands in the bathroom prior to returning to work. Well time has passed and Poppy is ready to forgive Jerry. Jerry and Elaine are sitting in the restaurant waiting for their dinner when Jerry comments that he’d have been happy having some pizza at home. Elaine is not at all happy because the place he orders his pizza from are staunch anti-abortion advocates, and a woman must be allowed her constitutional right to choose! So Jerry plays devil’s advocate and asks Poppy where he stands on the abortion issue-his long winded answer reveals that he is against it and Elaine nearly incites a riot in the restaurant causing half the customers to walk out.
This will of course have negative effects on both Elaine and Kramer later-as Elaine learns that her gorgeous new boyfriend is against abortion, which quickly ends their relationship. Kramer is later learning how to put together a pie-pre oven-and Poppy is insulted over how Kramer wants cucumbers on his pie. Cucumbers do not go on a pizza! A pizza has to have certain things and nothing else! But Kramer argues that it’s his pizza and he has the right to make it anyway he wants, plus-it’s not a pizza until it comes out of the oven! This leads to Poppy’s immediate response of it being a pizza as soon as the dough is made…
Conception or birth? Dough or cooked?
I laughed at the obvious parody they presented and wondered if others watching would wonder too at the ludicrous statement they presented, or if they’d find it too serious a subject to laugh at instead.

Quantum of Solace [2008]
I’ve seen the newest Bond film a few times. I was excited to see it when it first came out and my first impression was that it was similar, but different than the first film that was released two years ago with Daniel Craig as the latest 007. This film begins practically right where the last left off. Bond has taken Mr. White in to custody and is delivering him to M for questioning, but from here the story leads off in to new directions.
We learn that the organization that Mr. White works for is everywhere and that point is punctuated early on in the film. We also see a return of Felix Lighter-with the same actor Jeffrey Wright playing him thankfully! He adds a certain cynicism to the film that seems needed and that it’s played by an American CIA agent in the film seems appropriate, since the US does have a few problems with intelligence currently.
The film moves quickly and the pace is fast. If we were running a marathon this would be a 2:45 pace at least! I also enjoyed the opening song “Another Way to Die”-sung by Alicia Keyes and Jack White. If you enjoy the opening music I highly suggest visiting the official web site at 007.com and view the video while it is available. It is very good and the main motif recurs enough to become lodged in your head! The main female character that Bond early on becomes a pseudo-guardian for is the character Camille-played by Olga Kurylenko-who also played in “The Hitman” [2007] and while I realize she may be considered a beauty by some she left a great deal to be desired by me if she was to be the main attraction for Bond’s affections. However, the film did produce a very attractive woman for Bond to seduce by the name of Strawberry Fields. I’m a Beatles fan and get the reference here with the Red haired British beauty. She is stunning with her alabaster skin, straight red hair and pretty figure. Gemma Arterton plays Ms. Fields and was in the recent release “RocknRolla”
The film has many good parts and is a good continuation of the series. I look forward to the next production and release of a Bond film with Daniel Craig-whenever that may be.

Lions Lost to Minnesota at Ford field [Dec 2008]
Well for all the fans that went to the game I can only imagine that it was another in a long line of disappointing games in the last year. The Lions are 1-20 in their last 21 games, and not only are we the laughing stock of the NFL but the commentators are making jokes and laughing as if we weren’t even an NFL team. Coach Marinelli comes across like it’s just another week and he’s flipping burgers at McDonalds-though maybe he will be next year!
I saw the highlights-as it was blacked out yet again-and the Lions played what looked like a decent game, but yet again they simply don’t have what it takes to win. They lack the energy or the poise to make those plays when they need too.
Next week they travel to Indianapolis and I have no delusions that we will leave with a win there. The Colts [9-4] play as if they want to win and move on to the playoffs. The Lions play as if they were on a weekend at Bernies. I’d say let’s hope we don’t embarrass ourselves next week, but I think that’s about 13 months too late.

Eat Like A Jedi…and grow like one too!
For all of you who desire to be 3 feet tall just like your favorite jedi master now you too can eat the breakfast, lunch or dinner of champions-900 year old champions too!
The recipe for the widely seen, but little known Yoda stew has been published on starwars.com and can be republished with starwars.com’s authorization. While it’s not a vegan or vegie stew I’m sure that tofu and other vegies could be substituted for the lamb that the recipe calls for. However you prepare your yado Stew-Bon Appetite!
As the colder months approach now is the perfect time to whip up something yummy befitting of a Jedi Master. Here's a tasty interpretation of "Yoda's Incredible Herb Stew" -- originally prepared exclusively for National Public Radio by noted gourmet chef and author, Craig Claiborne.
This recipe goes waaay back to 1983, when NPR debuted a new 10-part radio drama based on The Empire Strikes Back. Craig Claiborne was invited to create his own tasty version of "rootleaf," a succulent dish featured in both the film and radio versions. If you remember, "rootleaf" was prepared for Luke Skywalker by Yoda, the ancient Jedi Master.
We believe you'll find the following recipe a perfect food idea for eight hungry young Jedi. Kids should have adult supervision and assistance when making this meal.
3 pounds lean lamb or other meat
Salt to taste, if desired
Freshly ground pepper to taste
6 tablespoons light vegetable or other oil
6 cups finely chopped parsley
3 cups thinly sliced onions
1 tablespoon finely chopped garlic
2 teaspoons ground coriander
2 teaspoons ground cumin
1 teaspoon ground turmeric
2 tablespoons finely minced ginger root
1 teaspoon finely chopped seeded hot green or red chilies
1/4 teaspoon ground cardamon
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
1 bay leaf
3 pounds fresh spinach, well rinsed and tough stems removed.
INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Cut the meat into one inch cubes, and add salt and pepper to taste.
2. Heat half the oil in a heavy skillet and add the meat, turning to brown the pieces on all sides.
3. Heat the remaining oil in a Dutch oven or heavy casserole and add parsley, onions and garlic. Cook, stirring often until the onions are wilted. Add the meat, coriander, cumin, turmeric, ginger root, chilies, cardamon, cinnamon, cloves, bay leaf, and salt and pepper to taste. Stir.
4. Add water to cover, bring to boil and cover tightly. Let simmer about 2 to 2 1/2 hours until the meat is quite tender.
5. Meanwhile, drop the spinach into a kettle of boiling water with salt to taste and let simmer about five minutes. Drain well and run under cold water. Drain thoroughly.
6. Squeeze the spinach to remove all excess liquid. Place the spinach on a chopping block and chop coarsely.
7. Add the spinach to the stew and stir. Let simmer together about five minutes.
Yield: Eight servings.

Lions Lost on Thanksgiving!
Well I think I’ve found a new way to say that the Detroit Lions lost this past week.
They suck!
There was a lot of talk from the Lions head coach Rod Marinelli about how the Lions needed the game last week to get them psyched up and to play well. They needed a nationally televised game and to play a good team so that they would play better. They needed to pressure to perform better. Well the nationally televised game simply showed the rest of the country that they were right all along-that the Lions play poorly and don’t step up in the big games and don’t know how to win. The 47 to 10 loss showed everyone-including die hard Lions fans-that the Lions have nothing left to play for this season. They are 0-12 and are looking more and more like they will indeed be the first team to ever finish 0-16. They may be the next perfect team-but not in the way any of us want to be remembered.
From the second play of the game the Lions showed how not to play-they fumbled on a running play and it lead to a Titans touchdown less than one minute later. The only Lions highlights for the game was Jason Hanson’s 53 yard field goal in the first half and a fumble recovery by the defense who nearly ran it in for a touchdown. If not for these there would have been NO Lions highlights! Truthfully-the local sportscasters were calling the highlights, “lowlights” on the late news. The Lions seem to have very little to play for anymore-except maybe pride. Pride for themselves and for their fans.
I hope they win at least one of their final 4 games. Yet with them playing Minnesota, Indianapolis, New Orleans and Green Bay at Lambeau I don’t expect any miracles to happen, or many smiles to occur.

Fox TV on Demand!
OK I spend enough time online and on my computer that I should have already been aware that Fox has its own web site and on this site they have plenty of information on the latest TV shows as well as….the chance to watch the older episodes of some select shows!
Family Guy is one of my favorites to watch when I need to laugh and this show is available to watch as well as; Bones, 24, Hell’s Kitchen, the Simpsons, American Dad and many others!
If you’ve not seen your favorite Fox TV show then take a look at this site and you may find the recent episode that you missed and be able to watch it at your leisure!

Galaxy Quest~!! [1999]
If there was ever a funnier and yet serious spoof of Star Trek and Sci-Fi then I’ve not yet seen it! I had the chance to re-watch this movie over the weekend and it made me laugh and smile with the over-the-top performances of the characters and actors!
From Time Allen’s portrayal of Commander Taggart to Sigourney Weaver’s emotional portrayal of Lt. Tawny Madison-with her gorgeous body center stage! Alan Rickman’s interesting and yet controlled performance of the alien Dr.Lazarus. Tony Shaloub as the tech sergeant responsible for fixing the ship under any circumstances! Reminds me of Mr. Scott on Star Trek, and he falls in love with an alien-who is really very attractive with her pale, white skin and the dark straight hair! Missy Pile plays Laliari the alien emissary to Tim Allen’s character-after her translator is fixed-and the soon to be love interest and first assistant to tech sergeant played by the actor Fred Kwan and in real life Tony Shaloub. There are supporting roles by Enrico Colantoni who plays Mathesar the alien leader and commander who puts all his
people’s hopes and dreams into one basket. The one carried by goofball Tim Allen!
From the convention where the cast is upset and angry over their co-stars apparent lack of respect for their craft, or for punctuality, to Tim Allen’s astonished look when he’s about to be transported like some over-sized pneumatic tube across the universe back to earth this film has some very good special effects, decent writing and good acting by all. It presents us with the question of what do you do when you find what you do for a living really does matter to someone-even if you never thought it did and it hadn’t mattered to you before? Even more is what do you do when you find that others are relying on you to help them? Do you turn away from them, run and let them down? Or do you accept the challenge and work hard, get the help of your friends and accomplish your goal?
Maybe this movie is simply meant to be funny, but many people may think of their jobs as not having much impact in the larger picture. Yet if we all didn’t do whatever it is we do for a living wouldn’t there be a large hole? Wouldn’t things end up not getting done? And then perhaps we’d see just how important our role really is both at work, and with those we care about-friends and family.
